Small Business Ideas For Teens
Just a few short months ago my kids discovered the beauty of starting a very small business. I couldn’t have been happier. Oh one of my daughters has been babysitting for years. But this summer the kids stumbled upon a petsitting business they didn’t even really set out to build. A friend of ours needed some cats watched for three days. So we volunteered. Then another friends needed petsitting and we said we could do it and then a couple more friends were heading away for a week and both of my girls decided they’d help out there too. So a small petsitting business was born from a need in…

It’s Time Once Again for Christina Knows Best – Stokke Blanket
It’s time yet again for Christina’s take on new MOM stuff! This time she’s taking on the Stokke Blanket and she’s also apparently trying Halloween costumes on her baby too. Because, why not? Christina is my baby correspondent, or correspondent with a baby. Yeah, that’s it. Anyways, Christina vlogs periodically about new baby products and brands. You can see her right here also in the NEW Baby product contributor post where I introduced her to my readers. You can read more about her in the above post. If you want to send something like the Stokke blanket to her, you can contact me inkscrblr@rogers.com and I will connect you. Then…

Social Media Bullying – What Do I Do If My Child is Being Bullied on Social Media?
Social media is here to stay and unfortunately that means social media bullying is also a threat, so you better get savvy about monitoring your child on their social channels. I wish more than anything that I didn’t have to write this post. I make my living off social media and I love it for many reasons. I use it mostly for social good to help build messaging on line for brands like World Vision Canada, and patient groups seeking help, or raising awareness, for issues like infertility, adoption, child poverty. I love what I do and it is the best of several worlds for me – passion, advocacy, and…

Frustration and No Answers Yet on This Ankle #health
I am frustrated! With a capital F. One of my daughters is still in pain and we have no clarity as to what exactly is going on. Her ankle pain waxes and wanes a bit. Remember when I mentioned that months ago we thought she could have juvenile arthritis? There are brutal days where she limps a lot and days where it seems less obvious. She had two great weeks at end of August where camps were over and her ankle didn’t hurt much. But this week it was a mess again. In July, it swelled up like a football after horseback riding dismount one day. Then it was sore and…

These Five Things I Hope For You The Night Before School Starts #SpecialNeeds
It is not the most wonderful time of the year. It’s the night before school starts and frankly that means many of you, my friends, the people I know who parent kids with unique needs, will not be sleeping well. I know you. I see you tweeting and posting and worrying quietly behind closed doors whether this will be the year your child will be understood. Has the IEP been read? Will your child even be able to get into the school physically? Will he cling, or cry, or wave happily. I know you are worrying yourself sick the night before school starts. It’s what we do. I know you. You…

Celebrate Life and all The Little Moments #BirthdaysCount
When my children were little we spent many hours celebrating being a family. And every year their birthdays were all consuming but wonderful little landmarks of our lives together. For weeks we would plot guest lists and the themes, building the perfect cake. Planning presents that would make their hearts sing. They were one and two and barely old enough to remember, but I remember every last detail. Every present bought, special invitation, and each special guest that shared their day and held them close. Sometimes I bought their cakes, but very often I tried to bake something special just for them. I still remember easily Payton’s first birthday which was…

Martial Arts and Kids #fitness #WordlessWednesday
My girls kick butt. Well, I think they kick butt. Our girls have been taking martial arts for many years now. The daughter on the right hand side started when she was four years old. If you visit this blog often then you know that she has special needs. As a little person, she also had a hip that did not function well. An orthopaedic surgeon at one point indicated to me that she needed extra help with gross motor movements. After she was diagnosed with sensory processing disorder and fetal alcohol spectrum disorder, a brain injury sustained from prenatal alcohol exposure, I researched a lot. I took several courses and…

Relaxing #WordlessWednesday
This one doesn’t relax too often. Maybe she takes a little after me. HMMM…anyways, it was a gorgeous couple of days this weekend and I finally caught her enjoying the weather. I was also enjoying the weather and reading by the pool. Here’s to many more of those weekends coming up soon. This is a Wordless Wednesday post.
