Wordless Wednesday: Spring, Alzheimer’s and Me
This past year has been a terribly busy roller coaster of moving my Mom to a retirement home and trying to negotiate a whole new stage of life. It is compromising and working with a sibling whether you want to or not. Planning financially and making gut-wrenching life choice and health care decisions for my parent. It is forgetting to breathe. It is being cross-eyed exhausted from travel back and forth to a different city. It is busier than ever could have been predicted. It is me, now being the hostess of every family dinner/ holiday celebration because I moved my mother to the city where I live. (And I…

School Situation Update and #special needs
Remember this? Last month when multiple school failures led us to the front door of the school board office. On a day when the school failed my daughter yet again, we went in search of someone in person who would listen to the list of angry complaints I had. We found a superintendent and we eventually had more meetings and more emails and more phone calls and things have settled into a somewhat more supportive routine again. Many of you sent us tweets and facebook status updates and replies and emails regarding how disgusting the whole situation was. Many of my friends who parent children with special needs have chosen…

$10 Free Walmart Gift Card – US only
When my kids were tots and babies we used Walmart all the time. It was, simply put, the cheapest place I could go to buy diapers and baby wipes and toys and even a few essentials. These days we get there less and less. There was a time though when my average spend at the checkout there was $200. Yikes! I know not all of us can afford those bills these days, especially when times are tough. I won a gift card a couple weeks ago and while I love winning things, I had no clue this card was only good in the US Walmart stores. So instead of letting…

I wholeheartedly love this shoe clearance company. Great deals on products like Uggs right Now. But please note this is a SocialSpark initiative. I receive a small fee if people purchase through my blog. This is my disclosure.

Cooking With Kids Linky and Key Lime Pie
Hello lovely readers! It is the Thursday before Easter and I wanted to share with you another installment of our Cooking With Kids Feature. Now I want to assure you that, we often cook from scratch, but with kids when patience and time can clearly be at issue, well if the aim is spending time together and bonding and enjoying making something in the kitchen, sometimes it is simpler to use things that stack the deck in your favour. So for instance this week with my youngest, an easily frustrated child, who has never made a pie before, well I wanted to be reasonably sure we could make this recipe…

Wordless Wednesday – New Pet Love
Allow me to introduce our two new pets. Yup two. Baby guinea pigs. Turns out my kids love guinea pigs and really wanted a new little creature. As you may remember their sweet gal Cottonball died about two months ago. Guinea pigs are lovely little pets for kids. Cottonball was easygoing and rarely bit and if she did it didn’t hurt. They are a simple and fairly low maintenance child friendly pet. Not for those under about 6 or 7. These guys are: Buttercup and on Payton (bottom pic) Hope. I was hoping for Buttercup and Wesley, but the pun was lost on my girls. Anyways head over to one…

Kindersurprise and Sharing Easter
Every child is nothing short of a miracle. No matter how they come to be, or where they start. Miracles. Each and every one. Some simply have harder starts than others. Whether their challenges arrive in the form of health issues, prematurity or complications at birth. Some are born into the families they will live with forever. Others need help finding a soft place to land. My kids are the latter. We found them, caught them, held on tight. We are parents by adoption. This time of year we gather often with our friends, an extended family of parents who are born by heart. After our family celebrations are over,…
