I have partnered with YMC and Region of Peel and have received compensation for this post. All opinions are my own. Smoking in movies has been irksome to me for years. It’s so very unnecessary and irresponsible. I am a drama Mom. Both of my girls act and have for years with a local youth theatre troupe. It’s an amazing emotional outlet and youth development program. So I know all about character and plot devices and that smoking has traditionally been used as a character tool, but here’s the thing. It doesn’t have to be. I’ve seen many of the…

Word games can be such a great way to build early literacy skills with children. This simple pirate treasure crossword is fun and easy for kids who are just learning to read and write. They need a basic understanding of alphabet, spelling and printing to figure out this adorable pirate treasure crossword, but they don’t really need to be fluent readers yet. So here’s a cute Pirate Treasure Crossword for your kids. If you homeschool, or have a daycare facility you can help with the printing if need be. Argh Matey, I thought this year it could be fun to…

Fall style for men is something that gets neglected this time of year. With all the posts and advertisements out there about back to school I think men get forgotten. To be honest out of everyone in my family my husband is simply far less inclined to go shopping or revamp his wardrobe, even when it’s necessary. My husband spends the majority of his time in jeans, shorts, and workout gear, but when he has to get dressed up, he can be super picky. He’s actually quite fussy about the fit and cut of his clothing, so I know men…

It’s impossible to be bored in Philadelphia’s Historic Waterfront District. That’s the verdict from my youngest daughter after we returned home from a four day visit to Philadelphia. History lessons, outdoor spaces, public art, good food, and learning experiences are around every corner and we were both amazed at how family friendly Philly’s museums and attractions are. This is a city meant to be explored. This summer Ainsley and I headed to Philadelphia for a mother daughter trip. We spent our first day exploring Philadelphia’s Historic Waterfront District and it was a treat. After checking in at the Wyndham…

Eco shopping has become very popular these days, and that’s a good thing. With climate change and resource usage being real wolves outside our doors, it’s important that we do whatever we can to help reduce our impact on the planet. Most of us already recycle. A lot of us upcycle, finding new uses for used items or turning them into crafts. There’s so much more we can do, though, and it’s easy. Take shopping for example. Eco shopping may sound like a trendy term, but it really just means being more efficient and making small changes that impact both…

This post is sponsored by Loblaws. Lately I have been thinking a lot about food and the act of nourishing a family. For instance, what does it take to raise a food lover? Fall means back to school and routines. Sometimes that’s exciting. Return to a regular schedule can mean new beginnings and that’s fun, even re-invigorating. Around here that may mean less barbecue and more quick family-friendly meals. Or more slow cooker meals. The Fall schedule means more meal preparation, planning and organization, which also means easing back into a routine in the mornings and at dinner too.…

I mean it’s a symbol of fertility and you either welcome it or dread it monthly for decades. Between mood swings, cramping, and sometimes pregnancy scares, your period has probably given you headaches – both figuratively and literally – for years. Did you know there’s another thing affected by menstruation? I know, I know – that isn’t enough. It’s true, though. Periods affect the look and health…

Blogging can be a lot of fun. What other job out there offers the freedom to set your own schedule, be flexible and work as much or as little as you want? Sounds pretty awesome, right? If you are a blogger, then you probably know this already. Being a blogger may sound as though you spend your days writing about anything and everything that you want, while waiting for people to read what you’ve published….but, it’s so much more than that. Blogging is a job. There is a lot of time and effort that goes into every blog post. Successful…

Our trip to Philadelphia was sponsored by Visit Philly and we were hosted while in Philadelphia. My opinion is truthful. If only walls could talk. Well, actually at Eastern State Penitentiary, the world’s first and most historic penitentiary, they do. Numerous multi-media and art installations, coupled with a brilliant audio tour, make history come to life giving walls a voice inside this historical Philadelphia landmark. During a recent mother daughter trip to Philadelphia we had an extra day to explore. When flights are cancelled last minute what do you do? Well, you explore more of the history in this rich city.…

Recently, we’ve have had a string of wicked hot summer days. High humidity and all that goes with it. Doesn’t bother me a bit. My favourite seasons are summer and winter for the outdoor sports and the travel opportunities. I live for shorts weather and I hate sacrificing comfort for trends. Bring on the heat and the lighter clothing too. In summer months I’d be happy to wear a swimsuit and occasionally a coverup and work by the pool all season. But I settle for shorts and nice T-shirts. This season as the temperatures soared I have started noticing a…
