The Best Christmas Pokemon Gifts Roundup
Pokemon Gifts Roundup I have two girls who love this little guy named Pikachu. In my house the gender specific toys don’t really ever fly. My kids make up their own rules of play and they both love Pokemon. Oh they still love Barbie and Monster High, but they know what they like and they won’t be told by anyone what is cool, or girly. My junior black belt ten year old daughter has been collecting Pokemon cards for the last year or more. She has more than I can count and her interest shows no real indication of tapering off any time soon. Who would have thought that even…

Beados – Fun Craft Gifts for School Age Children #TMMGG2014
My kids are crafters. In fact that’s why I originally signed my older daughter up for preschool many years ago. I couldn’t keep up with her need to craft. It was constant. She still loves to craft and little daughter has followed in her footsteps. So, I always know when it is birthday time, or Christmas, a great craft kit will be appreciated almost more than any other item or toy. Beados arrived here on a day when Payton came home from school because she had been feeling sick. Beados is now one of my new favourite craft gifts for school aged children. Payton also made a Youtube video here for…

Hot Collector Toys for Christmas #TMMGG2014
Mutant Mania arrived here this week and I originally thought, well this is just another trendy toy. But, then we started playing with them together, my daughter and I, and I really found myself enjoying these hot collector toys. First thing to know, these are not for teeny people under five years old or anyone who puts too many toys near their mouth. They are, however, extremely fun hot collector toys. The heads and bodies of Mutant Mania Mix and Match Wrestlers come apart and can be interchanged to make each tiny figure into something different. These are so much fun they make the grade for me in the school aged…

My Traditional Christmas Gift Guide 2014 #TMMGG2014
Several weeks ago I announced my Gifts with Heart gift guide here on Thrifty Momma’s Tips. That Christmas gift guide 2014 is meant exclusively this year for gifts that give back to the world, or the community. Right now that means that it is dominated by World Vision Canada gifts. A gift from the catalogue there gives back to children and families living in poverty around the world. I have launched that guide and asked all my personal friends and family members to buy things such as artisan gifts from the World Vision gift catalogue. Many of my friends have informed me they are already doing that. Margarita Ibbott has picked…

New Barbie Amaze Chase Feature
No big secret here that my kids are Barbie fans. So, when we heard this new movie featuring Barbie was coming out we had to see it to believe it. Some days I am still certain Barbies are hatching a plot to take over my house. My one daughter has collected Barbies since she was two. I have written about our Love for Barbie often over the years. I fact my daughter’s love of Barbies is well documented. But what about my Barbie beginnings? Timeless Toys Look Like This In the 70s and 80s I grew up with Barbie and I can still recall every last dreamy pink Barbie…

Learning Resources For Kids with Special Needs
It’s the time of year when updating Individualized Education Plans and getting all the specialists lined up again takes a front seat here at my house. This past week I spent a few hours juggling the numerous doctors and people I want sitting at the table when my daughter’s new IEP is revised. She has been identified now with a learning disability in one area of math. It took me four years of pushing the school to believe that and it also took a private educational assessment that cost us a lot of money this summer. But it’s all good because I am certain we will each have the proper…

Marvel The Amazing Spiderman 2 Motorized Spider Force Web Blaster Review
Spider Force Web Blaster is great for children who love active play. So when this fun new Spiderman themed toy arrived here I pictured her using it many times and having a great adventure creating scenarios where she is a superhero like Spiderman or Super Girl. She’s very into the superheroes. No surprises here she loves the new Spider Force Web Blaster. Friday night fun around here took on a whole new dynamic once we had kids. When they were tiny Friday was blur of feeding, dressing, chasing and diapering the kids. Now we drop the diapering portion of that, but the rest is pretty much the same. Add some taxiing to…

Nerf Dolphina Bow Blaster: Must Have Toy for Summer
Pool toys are some of my favourites. We tend to use a lot of them when kids come for a swim and they frequently need to be refreshed. So I was happy when we got hold of this Nerf Dolphina Bow Blaster to test drive here for a bit of fun. As weekends go this last two have been pretty close to perfect. Our pool is open and weather has been finally warm enough to make the water refreshing and inviting. We are rapidly getting accustomed to summer life in our new house and our new neighbourhood and frankly the pool won’t lose its novelty anytime soon. Today we…

Spring Fever: Nerf Rebelle and Nerf Bash Ball – Review
Bye Bye Winter. It’s Hurricane season. Hurricane Ainsley season that is. Spring fever has hit hard here – FINALLY. I am not complaining. It was a long snowy, cold winter and we are still not entirely free of the season. There is still frost on the rooftops here most mornings and it’s April 1st! But the first hint of spring in our area of Ontario, Canada and my kids were racing outside knocking on doors in our new neighbourhood trying to make new friends. New Nerf toys like Nerf Rebelle helped start new friendships. We moved into our new home in the middle of the messiest winter month ever…
