Summer Crafts to the Rescue with #LinkedMoms chat
Odds are good that if you are a parent and your kids are home this summer, they want to craft. I know mine do. All the time. Sometimes it is actually overwhelming trying to find crafts that keep us all engaged. (This I admit is not my strength.) So happily, this week our #LinkedMoms chat has great guest host Cynthia Gagen joining us (@cyngagen on twitter is well known as a crafty gal and a savvy social media practitioner. Oh and she’s local. Cyn(thia) Gagen honed her creative skills in cooking, crafting, teaching, parenting, and loving life by being a (sometimes annoying) tag-along and following her parents, grandparents, and siblings around wherever…

The Odd Life of Timothy Green: Coming in August
I don`t often post these previews, but this was sent to me today and I watched it and honestly started crying. It is rare that a movie hits me that fast. The Odd Life of Timothy Green has all my favourite themes: infertility, adoption, love, faith, hope, special needs, differences, childhood. And it looks to have a healthy dose of magic realism. So breath-taking! I can`t wait. This summer has already given us Brave, a beautiful story for young girls and a captivating red-haired non-traditional princess named Merida. I am blown away that we might get two amazing family movies this summer. Can`t wait until August 15.

Wordless Wednesday: #LdnOnt Summer Festivals and Green Lantern Girl
This is my daughter enjoying Sunfest. When we moved to London 12 years ago I had no idea the city had so many amazing festivals. At the time, I had little love for this new city we had moved to, but the city grew on me, slowly through summer festivals like Sunfest and Ribfest and all the other incredible events that make the city unique. In Guelph, when I was growing up I remember fondly visiting the multi-cultural festival every summer. It was an event and a tradition that defined the city of Guelph. It is also one of those treasured memories of my hometown and childhood tangled up together.…

Beautiful Hair Builds Confidence
There are very few things in life that can make a woman feel as sexy as a great hair colour, style or cut. I am that girl. Always have been. The girl who likes her hair to look good and demands that her hair products or brands keep pace with a busy lifestyle. In my 40s I have a need to touch up those little annoying greys that show up every so often at the temple. I like quality hair products that don’t dry my hair and lend shine at the same time. I have naturally dry, curly and wavy hair, so I hunt for products that work well,…

Diversity and Different Cultures in Organa Kids’ DVD’s
Where children are concerned I am always conscious of the opportunities to teach empathy and differences. Kids are sponges after all and there are so many chances to teach them acceptance and tolerance and compassion. Books and experiences in real life can be most effective, but occasionally I like to supplement their learning with screen time. Computers and TV and DVDs that build on diversity, different cultures and languages have alsways been great tools in our home. So when I heard about the Nelly & Caesar Kids Collection and Castle Farm and Happy Valley, well I was excited to get hold of the set for review. We received Happy Valley…

Insurance Hunter: Comparison Shopping for Low Rates
Post brought to you by Insurance Hunter. All opinions are 100% mine. I am nothing if not a thrifty shopper and a bargain hunter. So when I discovered an on line insurance site for Ontario drivers that challenges me to hunt for my best rates for car insurance, I was happy to give it a whirl. Insurance Hunter.ca is fast and easy to use. If you have all your information available, including the make and model of your vehicle, the year you got your driver’s license and the number of no fault accidents you have been in, then the site does all the work. And fast. I spent some time…

Cooking With Kids: French Toast
Hi again! Every Thursday here at thriftymommastips.com, we are in the kitchen spending time with the kids. So visit one of my older Cooking With Kids posts to see what you can make with the children. It’s a great way to learn so many things. Building a recipe together gives children a sense of pride in their food and their nutrition habits. As well it helps teach math, reading, mneasurement…oh so many skills. My youngest, with special needs, loves the physical input of cracking, mixing and blending. Then we get to eat. What could be better? Ainsley asks me almost every day for French toast. We make it maybe once…
